The Pupil Premium Grant is allocated for pupils on roll known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) at any point during the last six years. It is also allocated to pupils in care, or who have been looked after for at least six months or for children of parents serving in the armed forces. Pupil Premium is allocated to support the raising of attainment for the most vulnerable pupils.

At Blackgates Primary School, the Pupil Premium funding is used to:

  • Narrow the attainment gap between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged pupils through quality first teaching and interventions as appropriate.
  • Develop the cultural capital of children who are disadvantaged.
  • Raise self-esteem and aspirations of pupils entitled to Pupil Premium through additional support and access to extra-curricular activities.
  • Ensure all children leave us ready, prepared for and able to cope with the next stage of their education.

Intervention is considered on an individual needs based process. It is possible that some of our pupils may benefit from access to more than one intervention strategy.
